In this paper, we investigate the conceptual architecture for the Firebird database. We identify the major components of the database system and their interactions. Some of these components themselves have their own architectures, which we will also discuss. We present some scenarios which illustrate the interactions between the components. We show that the top-level architecture is styled after a pipe and filter architecture, while each component may have its own architectural style.
