It is contested by 20 teams, with the three lowest placed teams relegated to the Segunda Division and replaced by the top three teams in that division. A total of 59 teams have competed in La Liga, nine of which have been crowned champions. Since the 1950s, Real Madrid and Barcelona have dominated the championship. Real Madrid have won the title a record 31 times while Barcelona have won it on 21 occasions. During the 1930s and 1940s and in the last two decades, however, La Liga has seen other champions, including Atletico Madrid, Athletic Bilbao, Valencia, Real Sociedad, Deportivo, Real Betis, and Sevilla. Barcelona have won the last three seasons of La Liga. Barcelona is the capital of Catalonia and the second largest city in Spain, after Madrid, with a population of 1,621,537 within its administrative limits on a land area of 101.4 km2 (39 sq mi). The urban area of Barcelona extends beyond the administrative city limits with a population of between 4,200,000 and 4,500,000 within an area of 803 km2 (310 sq mi), being the sixth-most populous urban area in the European Union after Paris, London, the Ruhr, Madrid and Milan. About five million people live in the Barcelona metropolitan area. It is located on the Mediterranean coast between the mouths of the rivers Llobregat and Besòs and is bounded to the west by the Serra de Collserola ridge. Messi has become the ultimate scoring machine for the Catalans and that is definitely what Chelsea will have to face today. Chelsea on the other hand is becoming less and less powerful. The team seems to be going down fast, day by day. However they will try their best to reach the finals in Munich regardless of the difficult path they had to go through. Team news is that for Chelsea, Ashley Cole will be returning to the lineups after being fit-to-play. With no fresh injuries, the team will be playing with a fully loaded squad. On the other hand, for Barcelona, although injuries have been reduced, they are still something to worry about. Only Pique is a doubt whereas Afellay, Villa and Fontas are the ones who will be totally sitting out on this one. Real Madrid Club de Futbol, commonly known as Real Madrid, is a professional football club based in Madrid, Spain. It was founded in 1902 as Madrid Football Club and has traditionally worn a white home kit since. The club is the richest football club in terms of annual revenue, generating €438.6 million in 2011 and the second most valuable, worth €1.4 billion. Real Madrid holds many long-standing rivalries, most notably El Clasico with FC Barcelona. Cristiano Ronaldo is a Portuguese footballer who plays as a winger or striker for Spanish La Liga club Real Madrid and is the captain of the Portuguese national team. Ronaldo became the most expensive footballer in history after moving from Manchester United to Real Madrid in a transfer worth £80 million (€94 million). In addition, his contract with Real Madrid, in which he is paid €12 million per year, makes him one of the highest-paid footballers in the world,[4] and his buyout clause is valued at €1000 million (€1 billion, in English usage), as per his contract. He also played at Euro 2004 with Portugal and scored his first international goal in the opening game of the tournament against Greece, in addition to helping Portugal reach the final.
