Save the bag your dress came in, or bring along a plastic bag to protect the dress. People often dispose off their wedding dress bags, thinking that the plastic bag would be of no use in the future. A little known fact is that the bag can be very handy, when you want to preserve your wedding dress for the future.  Choosing a wedding dress cleaner. There are various options to have the wedding gown cleaned. If you choose a local dry cleaner, ask the dry cleaner to take care of your gown during the cleaning process. You do not want your gown cleaned with other clothing. Most dry cleaners send the dresses out to a local company that specializes in wedding gown cleaning. This is the best option, as the local dry cleaners don't have the necessary equipment and space for the proper care of the gowns. Purchase a clean, white cotton sheet to wrap the wedding gown. Wash the cotton sheet in hot water, before using it for the purpose. Do not use detergent to wash the sheet, because the chemicals might ruin the fabric of the sheet and eventually, your wedding gown.   Store dress in an acid-free box. These can be purchased at fabric stores, or even local photo supply stores. The lid on the box should fit snugly, but not be airtight. The fibers of your dress need air to circulate among them. Before packaging your wedding gown for preservation, you do want to have the wedding dress professionally cleaned. It is best to clean the wedding dress within a week or two of the wedding, since any stains or odors will become more resistant over time.
