ExplorusDataSolutions/OGC-CHISP

OGC Climatology-Hydrology Information Sharing Pilot - This use case focuses on exchanging cross-border hydrologic data (stream flow and groundwater levels) with a unified alert service. Stream/river gauge and groundwater well locations are associated with a river network that in turn is associated with a set of basins (watersheds) (For the purposes of this Pilot, a simple geometric buffer will be used to identify gauge and well locations rather than catchments). For any well or stream gauge location, a web service provides access to the gauge and well information on all upstream stream segments or in all contributing basins. An event service provides subscribers a notification if any upstream streamflow or well water level reaches or exceeds a user-defined threshold. Selected river basins cross the U.S./Canada border. Data providers include state, provincial, and federal agencies. Based on sensor events, a flood is determined to be imminent and alerts are sent to the authorities in the affected areas.

ExplorusDataSolutions/FlowChart

Flowchart - Flowchart is designed to connect users with real-time water and environmental observation information in order to help them better understand and connect with the environment around them. The application accesses information from Alberta Environment ranging from river and reservoir flow to snow depth, temperature, and incoming solar radiation (along with many others). The tool allows users to quickly access data at stations of interest and to display that information on a graph. A skier might check the latest temperature and snow accumulation observations. An environmental scientist might check dissolved oxygen in relation to low water levels they observed. Flowchart lets users find and visualize data now. Information is shared with the app via the Water and Environmental Hub as a demonstration of the capabilities of the Water and Environmental Hub as a platform and API. Users are encouraged to visit the Water and Environmental Hub to find more data or to build their own water and environment application.

ExplorusDataSolutions/WaterEnvironmentalHub-WEHUB

Water Environmental Hub (WEHUB) - The Water and Environmental Hub (WEHUB) project is a cloud-based, open source web platform that’s making it easier for individuals and organizations to find, access, and share water and environmental data. What differentiates our approach from many others is our scalable and robust, cloud-based IT platform and web-based applications that support a wide variety of datasets and international data standards. This allows the WEHUB to provide open and transparent access to many different types of environmental datasets from many different public and private sector data providers. The WEHUB platform’s scalable and robust architecture supports a distributed approach to data management and sharing. The WEHUB allows any user or group to easily search, access and share water and environmental data from multiple providers and sources through a single web-based window. The WEHUB’s advanced “translator” feature allows it to pull data on-demand from a growing variety of different data sources, and present this data to users in a unified, standardized and consistent format. The WEHUB’s comprehensive and searchable data catalogue directly connects users with a requested dataset, and a full metadata profile. Users can easily add their own data to the WEHUB’s catalogue, selectively share their collection of data, comment on other datasets, or build mobile and web-based applications using the WEHUB’s API toolkit. The vision of WEHUB is to make all water and environmental data open and accessible via the web, freeing resources previously consumed by searching for, and acquiring, those data. This collaborative approach will enable new water perspectives while accelerating water research, integrated management, innovation and economic diversification.
